- Why Quetzal?:

This is the name of a beautiful paradise bird, endemic in South America and unfortunately on the list of endangered species. Following a Mexican tale, this bird landed on king Quetzalcoalt’s chest, when this warrior for freedom and liberty was deadly wounded lying on the ground. In the moment the bird took off again his breast feathers were deep red stained by the king’s blood.

- Details / Equipment:

I am a sailing yacht, a Dufour & Sparks 48 Prestige, overall 15,05 meters long and 4,62 meters wide. 1994 in the Antilles I touched sea for the first time. Later on I crossed the Atlantic, rested some time in France and now my home is the harbour of Santa Cruz de La Palma, on the Canary Islands.
My 52 m² main sail (new 2010) is fully battoned and provides 3 reefs, my Genoa measures 68 m². Sure I’ve got a 2nd Genoa in case a replacement is needed, as well as a storm jib, a solent and a 150 m² spinnaker, so you see I’m prepared for all winds. With my 13,5 tons of weight I don’t need too much of wind to sail away, steering stays smooth and effective. I am a safe but at the same time a sporty sailor. Well, a little luxurious too .... to be honest. 3 double cabins, one with additional 2 bunks, 3 fully equipped bathrooms. Teak wood throughout the whole ship, really cosy. The kitchen is fine, a cardan joined oven, lots of storing possibilities, 2 fridge’s. My pantry has space to easily cater 10 people. Additionally I have a Watt&Sea Hydrogenerator providing me with lots of energy during my long cruises.

- Security:

Security is very important to my skippers. So for every crewmember you’ll find automatic life vests with lifelines, lifebelts, a safety buoy with a telescopic device, an inflatable life raft for 10 people, an EPRIB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon), radar, radio, Navtex, GPS, a dinghy with outboard motor on board. In addition the yacht is equipped with all prescribed life-saving signals and medical supply for off shore cursing. For extra safety communiction I've got a Satphone on board.

- Program:

I offer day’s excursions, sailing introduction, trips over the weekend, as well as longer trips (1 to 3 weeks). Exciting combinations with scuba-diving, hiking or mountain biking on the different islands for those who don’t just want to increase their nautical mileage account will be on the schedule. Furthermore I’ve got something special for you: navigation with a sextant or maybe you prefer a "Gourmet-trip"? All this you’ll find in the attached schedule or just contact my skippers who’ll happily work a special program for you.

- Remark:

My skippers will join every trip, this is included in the price; so fun, security, their knowledge of the seas as well as my maintenance is guaranteed. I'd just like to remark that I am not an "all-inclusive club ship", my skippers and myself like the crew to participate actively in every day's boat life!

Thank you very much for you attention, I’m looking forward to our common trip here on the beautiful Canary Islands – in the "middle" of the blue Atlantic ocean - La Palma – Tenerife – Gran Canaria – El Hierro – Lanzarote – Fuerteventura – Gomera – La Graciosa and ever so often Madeira and Porto Santo. Any proposals or wishes form your side? Please get in touch, you’ll get your personal sailing experience tailor made especially for you!
